She Chose Wealth Over Love

Natalia grew up in a wealthy family. From childhood, she had everything many people could only dream of. At eighteen, her parents gave her a car, and at twenty-one, they bought her an apartment of her own. She worked at her father’s auditing company, while her mother owned a successful travel agency.

Her parents did their best to provide her with an excellent education and upbringing. However, Natalia became accustomed to a luxurious lifestyle and high standards. She dreamed of meeting a man who matched her social status.

One day, fate brought her together with Igor. After a minor accident in a parking lot, they met and soon began dating. Igor was kind, sincere, and hardworking. Feelings quickly blossomed between them.

A few months later, Igor proposed to Natalia. But when her parents learned that he came from a modest family and did not possess great wealth, they strongly opposed the marriage.

Her father gave her a difficult ultimatum:

“If you marry Igor, you can forget about our support. But if you listen to us, we will help you build a respectable future.”

For several weeks, Natalia struggled to make a decision. She loved Igor, but she was afraid of losing the comfortable life she had always known. In the end, she chose her family and agreed to marry Artyom, the son of a wealthy businessman whom her parents had long approved of.

When Natalia told Igor about her decision, he remained silent for a long time. It was a devastating blow to him. He did not try to persuade her to stay. He simply wished her happiness.

A few months later, Natalia had a lavish wedding with Artyom. It seemed that she had everything: a large house, expensive cars, and trips around the world. Yet her marriage was nothing like she had imagined. There was no sincerity or warmth between them—the very things she had once felt with Igor.

And Igor was left alone.

The first few months after the breakup were extremely difficult for him. But one day, he decided he would not allow this experience to destroy him. He devoted himself entirely to work and self-improvement.

During the day, he worked at a real estate agency, and in the evenings, he studied business, marketing, and investments. Gradually, he started launching his own ventures. One business followed another, and with each passing year, his experience and income grew.

Seven years later, Igor had become the owner of a major real estate network and a successful construction company. His name became well known in business circles, and his fortune was worth millions.

One evening, Natalia attended a charity gala. Among the guests were some of the city’s most influential entrepreneurs. Suddenly, the host invited the event’s main sponsor onto the stage.

When the man stepped into the spotlight, Natalia froze.

It was Igor.

Confident, successful, and elegantly dressed, he looked completely different from the young man she once walked through parks with while dreaming about the future.

After the event, their eyes met.

“Hello, Natalia,” he said calmly.

“Igor… I had no idea you had achieved so much.”

He smiled.

“Sometimes the greatest defeats become the beginning of the greatest victories.”

Natalia lowered her eyes. At that moment, she realized that she had not rejected a poor man years ago—she had rejected a man with enormous potential.

They spoke for a few minutes and then went their separate ways.

As Natalia drove home, she stared out the car window for a long time. For the first time in many years, she reflected on how profoundly life is shaped by the choices we make.

And Igor got into his car and drove away. There was no bitterness left in his heart. The pain he had once endured had become the fuel for his success.

Sometimes loss does not destroy a person.

Sometimes it pushes them to become who they were always capable of being.
