Emma never expected a crowded subway to turn her life upside down. When the train suddenly jerked, a handsome stranger named Daniel caught her by the waist.
“Careful, beautiful,” he whispered, smiling.
“Do you always flirt with strangers?” she teased.
“Only the ones who make my heart race.”
Before Emma could respond, another handsome man, Alex, stepped closer. His intense gaze made her curious.
“Don’t let his smile fool you,” Alex said. “I’m much more interesting.”
Emma laughed. “Why don’t you both prove it?”
That evening, Daniel took her to a rooftop bar. His fingers brushed hers across the table, and when he leaned closer, she could feel the tension between them.
“Have you been thinking about me?” he whispered.
“Maybe,” she replied, glancing at his lips. “Don’t get too excited.”
But later that night, Alex was waiting outside.
“I’m jealous whenever I see you with him,” he confessed, stepping closer. “And I can’t pretend otherwise anymore.”
Emma’s heart raced. “Then give me a reason to choose you.”
Days later, at a party, Alex pulled her onto the dance floor. His hand rested on her waist as he looked into her eyes.
“Can I kiss you?” he whispered.
Emma leaned closer, their lips almost touching—until Daniel suddenly interrupted.
Outside, Daniel revealed the truth: he and Alex were best friends, and both had fallen deeply for her.
The next morning, Emma found Alex waiting outside her apartment.
“Why didn’t you tell me how you felt?” she asked.
“Because I want you to choose me, not feel obligated to.”
Emma smiled, placed her hands on his face, and kissed him passionately.
When they finally pulled apart, Alex whispered, “Does this mean I’ve won?”
She laughed. “No. It means you finally stopped talking long enough to kiss me.”
And from behind them, Daniel’s voice interrupted.
“I’m happy for you two. But if you ever break her heart, I’ll be waiting.”
Emma burst out laughing as Alex pulled her closer.
She had boarded that subway expecting an ordinary ride home. Instead, she found two men who wanted her heart—and discovered that the strongest attraction was the one she never saw coming.
